Federal earmarks can provide funding to initiate significant programs of research that address key national and regional problems for which competitive funding is not readily available. These funds often help a researcher or department build the capacity to undertake larger scale projects. Please review President Cavanaugh’s memo and the proposal template. To all Principal Investigators and Budget Managers responsible for grants and contracts:

Research and Sponsored Programs is streamlining the notification process for grant termination. Beginning Monday, July 2, 2007, a grant ending notification will automatically be emailed to the Principal Investigator (PI) based on the Grant End Date that is currently in Banner. The first email will go to PIs that have grants and contracts ending within the next 90 days. Subsequent emails will be sent 90 days prior to the Grant End Date.

Because the email will only be sent to the PI, a new report (RSP000018 Grants Ending Within 30/60/90/120 Days) has been developed in Information Navigator for use by budget managers and others that shows grants ending within 30/60/90/120 days of the Grant End Date. NOTE: If Research and Sponsored Programs is processing a no-cost extension, the End Date will be changed after the extension has been approved by the agency.

Please contact Beth Moulder at 850-474-2824 if you have questions.
